In recognition of the serious effects of Lyme disease, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has declared 2012 as Lyme Disease Awareness Year.
The Board adopted a resolution and proclamation in which the Board “commits to mitigating the devastating effects of Lyme disease on the citizens of Loudoun.” The Board also voted to send a ten-point action plan, which will include a community education and outreach effort, to the Finance, Government Services and Operations Committee for review.
As detailed in the action plan, a link to the county’s Lyme disease Web page –www.loudoun.gov/lyme - has already been placed prominently on the county’s home page. The county will also begin soliciting bids to apply insecticides at some county-owned parks.
More information about Lyme disease, including links to information from the Virginia Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control, is online at www.loudoun.gov/lyme .
