FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 14, 2016 Contact: Kraig Troxell, Public Information Officer, 703-771-5278 [email protected] Alex Kowalski, Public Information Officer, 703-777-0625 [email protected] LCSO Deputy Named Virginia Sheriffs’ Association Deputy Sheriff of the Year Loudoun County, VA- For the second time in three years a member of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has been recognized as the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association Deputy Sheriff of the Year. Deputy First Class Rodriguez was recognized this week at the 83rd Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association in Tysons Corner. DFC Rodriguez was named the Deputy Sheriff of the Year for his work on high-profile investigations in Loudoun County, including a 2015 homicide investigation. “DFC Rodriguez is among the many Loudoun Sheriff’s Office personnel who continue to be recognized locally, around the Commonwealth and nationally and this recognition exemplifies the professionalism of the agency and our staff,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman. In 2014, Sgt. D. Spurlock was named the Deputy Sheriff of the Year by the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association for his work in developing an educational program to help protect children from becoming victims of Internet crimes. Other deputies receiving statewide recognition in recent years include DFC A. Raughley, Master Deputy L. Swope, Sgt. J. McGinn and Senior Deputy J. Heydens. DFC Raughley was recognized as the 2014 Virginia Crisis Intervention Team Deputy of the Year. Master Deputy L. Swope and Sgt. J. McGinn (Retired) were honored by the Virginia D.A.R.E. Officers Association and the Virginia D.A.R.E. training center in 2015. Master Deputy Swope was named the Virginia State D.A.R.E. Officer of the Year and Sgt. McGinn was honored to receive the 2015 E. Stuart Kitchen D.A.R.E. Lifetime Achievement Award. Sgt. McGinn was also named the Virginia State D.A.R.E. Supervisor of the year in 2013 and in 2014 Senior Deputy Joe Heydens was named the Virginia State D.A.R.E. Officer of the Year. ###
