FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 10, 2016 Contact: Kraig Troxell, Public Information Officer, 703-771-5278 [email protected] Alex Kowalski, Public Information Officer, 703-777-0625 [email protected] LCSO Investigates Pedestrian Involved Fatality Crash in Sterling Loudoun County- On October 9, 2016, members of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated a vehicle crash which involved a pedestrian struck in Sterling. The crash occurred around 2:25 a.m. in the area of Sterling Boulevard and E. Beech Road. The preliminary investigation indicates that Andres Zambrana, 65, of Washington, DC, was crossing from west to east in the crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle proceeding northbound on Sterling Boulevard. According to an independent witness the driver of the vehicle had a green signal light at the time of the crash. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and called 9-1-1. Zambrana was transported to a local hospital and where he lost his life a short time later. Alcohol is believed to be a factor with the pedestrian. This case will remain under review for charges until toxicology results return and the results of the investigation reviewed with the Loudoun County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office to determine any possible charges. ###
