LCSO Reminds Residents to Lock Vehicles near Daycare Facilities, Schools After Recent Thefts

Loudoun County, VA- The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents to lock their vehicle and remove valuables while running errands or dropping off children. Last week, several vehicles were entered and items were stolen at schools/daycare facilities in the Sterling and Ashburn areas.

The suspects are targeting vehicles while the victims drop off their children at their day care centers or their school. The thieves are taking purses in an effort to obtain identification and checkbooks to be used at local banks immediately after the crime.

Detectives with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office are working with other agencies to determine if the cases are related to similar cases in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

In an effort to deter these thefts, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to:

•Ensure that your vehicle is locked and secured, even when running errands and dropping off children at day care centers or schools.

•Never leave your car unlocked when unattended, even if it is for a short time, and remove any valuables.

•Please remember to keep checks and identity documents securely with you or at home.  Do not leave them in a vehicle where someone has a moment or chance to take them.

•If you have checks, money, credit cards, or identification taken from an unlocked vehicle, contact the Loudoun Sheriff’s Office immediately and your bank.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 703-777-1021.
