LCSO Helps Raise Over $13,500 for Cancer Research by Growing Beards

 Loudoun County, VA –
Loudoun Sheriff’s Deputies put down their razors and let their beards grow for a good cause in November and helped raised over $13,500 for cancer research.

Over 175 LCSO deputies took part in the effort and joined law enforcement agencies from across the United States in participating in No-Shave November. By growing beards deputies were able to raise funds for cancer research and treatment and helped educate residents about preventative measures. This is the first time the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the non-profit organization No-Shave November and the LCSO was one of the top fundraisers among law enforcement agencies who participated in the campaign.

In lieu of shaving, each deputy who grew out their facial hair contributed $25 to participate. Residents were also encouraged to join the LCSO team to raise monies to bring us one step closer to help prevent the disease and aid those fighting the battle. “I am somewhat old school when it comes to appearance and law enforcement and was initially reluctant to participate in No-Shave November. However, as many of us have been personally impacted by cancer, I agreed that this is a great way to raise awareness and money,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman. “Our initial goal was to raise $2,500 and we reached that goal within 24-hours. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the community who helped make this campaign a huge success in Loudoun,” added Sheriff Chapman.  Female deputies were also able to participate by wearing ribbons in their hair after making a donation

The non-profit was launched in 2009 and over the last eight years the campaign has successfully raised over $3.5 million dollars to combat this disease. This year’s event will fund organizations including the Prevent Cancer Foundation, Fight Colorectal Cancer, and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
