Loudoun County, VA – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office graduated two members of the agency’s leadership staff from the 42nd session of the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS).

1st Lieutenant Kevin Tucker, a 14-year veteran of the agency and 2nd Lieutenant Robert Garnett, Jr., a 12-year veteran, graduated Thursday from the intensive three-week leadership education program.

1st Lieutenant Tucker serves in the Field Operations Division and is the Assistant Station Commander of the Dulles South Station. 2nd Lt. Garnett is assigned to the Corrections and Court Services Division and is a shift lieutenant at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center (ADC).

“The PELS program is part of my goal to continue to improve service, efficiency and professionalism in the agency,” said Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman.  “Participating in the this program increases the professionalism of our leadership staff and enables the agency to network with other large law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth,” Chapman added.

The PELS program is conducted in cooperation with the University of Richmond. This program is designed for individuals who currently serve in command/executive level positions within their agencies. The curriculum is liberal-arts/humanities based and focused on the study of leadership at an advanced level. The objective of this program is to acquaint participants with best practices in leadership, challenge them to reflect upon their own leadership competency, and examine ways of achieving both personal and professional growth.

The classes are held on the campus of the University of Richmond, and faculty members from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, teach the classes. They are drawn from the Robins School of Business, the Management Institute, Jepson School of Leadership Studies, and several other schools within the university.
