Loudoun County, VA- The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) saw a 31% decrease in larcenies from vehicles after introducing the #9PMRoutine in 2017.

Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman introduced the campaign last summer to remind residents to make sure to lock their vehicles and the doors to their home, as well as close their garage doors before they go to bed each night.

“We are encouraged by this decrease in crime and we believe it was due in part, to our resident’s efforts to follow the #9PMRoutine and deter these criminals,” said Sheriff Mike Chapman. “We will continue to work with our community to eliminate crimes of opportunity,” Sheriff Chapman added.

Loudoun County typically experiences an increase in larcenies from vehicles during the summer months. In many cases, the thieves simply enter vehicles that are left unlocked. The LCSO saw over 50 fewer cases of theft from vehicles between June 1 and August 31 of 2018, compared to the same time period in 2017.

The LCSO continues to issue reminders featuring the crime prevention hashtag on the agency’s social media pages. The social media posts encourage residents to participate in the #9PMRoutine.

In addition to following the #9PMRoutine, residents are also encouraged to immediately report all suspicious activity by calling the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 703-777-1021.
