The “splashpad” play area is taking shape as crews are currently installing the water features at Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park, currently under construction on Evergreen Mills Road in Arcola. The splashpad, athletic fields with turf and lighting, buildings, paths and other features are under construction throughout the park. When completed, the park will feature 17 lighted athletic fields, including two artificial turf fields and one cricket field; five ponds; the historic Hanson House; an event lodge and nature center; a skate plaza and disc golf course; a splash pad and playground with inclusive features and over 75 acres of passive recreational space.
Work on various structures throughout the park continues, including the installation of siding and trim, glass block, roofing, insulation, ceiling grid, drywall, ductwork, and fire protection and utility rough-in. Crews are also installing interior floor finishes, like ceramic tile, and painting the interior. At Hanson House, work currently includes hanging ductwork, and plumbing and electrical rough-in.
Ongoing work throughout the park includes installation of underground utilities, installation of turf irrigation systems and pouring concrete at site stairs, plazas and sidewalks. Crews will also continue paving asphalt trails, installing athletic field turf, and seeding throughout the project site.
The Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park project includes the design and construction of a new 257-acre regional park located on Evergreen Mills Road in Arcola, between the Brambleton and Willowsford communities. The park will be operated by the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services and is estimated for completion in spring of 2022.
