Ashburn Senior Center Ready to be Turned Over to Parks and Recreation

Posted on March 17, 2021 at 10:45 AM by Heidi Kellum

The Ashburn Senior Center has reached in construction terms, substantial completion. Substantial completion is the point at which the Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure (DTCI), which is overseeing the project, certifies that construction is done and the Senior Center is ready to be turned over to the Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services for staffing, furniture move-in, and grand opening date and events.

The Ashburn Senior Center is estimated to open to the public in late spring 2021.

The Ashburn Senior Center project includes the construction of a 15,000-square-foot senior center on a five-acre proffered site. Features of the center include a small gymnasium, a large multipurpose room with pickleball courts, classrooms, a commercial kitchen, a fitness room, a game room, a computer lab and an arts-and-crafts room.

The exterior areas have been designed as extensions to the classroom areas, allowing activities to flow outside to take advantage of the natural surroundings.
