On November 17, 2020, the design-build contract was awarded for the Northstar Boulevard: Shreveport Drive to Route 50 project to Shirley Contracting Company, LLC of Lorton, VA in association with Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc.
The design phase of the design-build contract will begin in December 2020.
This project will design and construct a new four-lane, median divided segment of Northstar Boulevard from Shreveport Drive to U.S. Route 50. The scope includes a 10 foot wide shared use path on both sides of the roadway, a traffic signal at Route 50 and the realignment of a portion of Arcola Mills Drive, formerly known as Evergreen Mills Road.
The project is currently estimated for completion in mid-2024.

In the first quarter of 2020, work on the preliminary design for the Northstar Boulevard: Shreveport Drive to Route 50 project was completed. Currently, the county is accepting contractor bids for a design/build contract. Work on the design phase of the design/build contract is estimated to begin by the end of 2020.

- A location and design public information meeting was held July 8, 2019 at John Champe H.S. in Aldie.
- County staff and design team members were on hand to talk about the design of the roadway, answer questions and accept written comments on the proposed project.
- Citizens unable to attend the meeting can access a copy of the public information meeting brochure and/or the comment sheet (materials are available in English and Spanish).
- Written comments will be accepted through August 7, 2019.
