In 2022, the federal government entered a contractual agreement with The National Conference Center (NCC) in Lansdowne to use the center as a “safe haven” to temporarily house Afghan evacuees beginning in March 2022 as part of Operation Allies Welcome. The site functioned as a brief stop for Afghan evacuees while they are resettled into new homes located throughout the United States.
As of September 23, 2022, the OAW operation has concluded and the last Afghan guests have departed the NCC. Federal officials will demobilize the site and vacate the property by September 30, 2022. The NCC will resume normal operations on October 1, 2022.
